KUNSTVEREIN TORONTO

Kunstverein Toronto is a nomadic exhibition platform operating alongside its partners in Amsterdam, Milan and New York. Initially moveable in both time and space, Kunstverein Toronto is dedicated to experimentation, discussion and hospitality in art and exhibition practices.

Fundamentally, Kunstverein Toronto seeks to foster exchange between local and international conversations and contexts. While prodding at expectations of disciplines, authorship, form, and display in contemporary art, Kunstverein Toronto strives to appeal to specialized and general audiences alike. A not-for-profit institution, Kunstverein Toronto is supported through membership.

We program in dialogue with a local advisory board as well as an international group of artists, curators, thinkers, and enthusiasts.

ANNA BANANA
45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana

Anna Banana explores the historical and contemporary implications of mail art and highlights a unique approach to humour, disguise, and the democratic potential of print media and critique. The show will feature Anna Banana's artiststamps, mailers, postcards, posters, and costumes made over a forty- ve year period.

“The Banana paradox means that A. Banana’s work enters your house much more intimately than movies or mass-produced postcards. Unlike artworks in the marketplace, Banana’s mail art is addressed to a network partner (or recipient). How many so-called artworks have the recipient’s name and address inscribed on them?” (Anna Banana: 45 Years of Fooling Around with A. Banana, 73)
