Wandering Calendar #3

Coincident with May’s Flower Moon, Ashes Withyman’s contribution to the Wandering Calendar was on view at Brock Avenue, just south of Florence Street in the pedestrian underpass between Dundas and Queen Streets.

“The Ballad of the Custard Monger” is a series of laser-printed colour photocopies with additive letterpress elements, typeset and printed in the Dawson Print Shop at NSCAD University. Forging a link between the hawking of wares past and present, Ashes uses text in the voice of the town crier, poetically announcing an array of objects and
experiences that populate the capitalocene. Bohhhhhhhhh-tox, Joggy tops, Slippers, Slippers, Mops!!

Produced with huge gratitude to student printmaker Lee Richard. ✨ Thanks to Brennan J. Kelly for continued support and to Kunstverein Toronto for hosting the Wandering Calendar Project, lovingly (dis)organized by HaeAhn Paul Kwon Kajander.
