“Interval” is S F Ho’s contribution to the Wandering Calendar, billowing in the wind at 198 Carlton St, Toronto (corner of Carlton + Ontario St).
Inspired by the trajectory of light observed through an open door as a measure of time, S F’s silk textile includes a found-language poem referring to lunisolar as well as Toronto’s urban waste management calendars.
Made with the support of the natural dye lab at NSCAD University and with generous input from Nora Renick Rinehart and Heidi Friesen – the work additionally includes two stenciled rabbits based on drawings by HaeAhn Paul Kwon Kajander in collaboration with S F Ho.
S F ho would like to thank Jonny Scott and Brennan J. Kelly for installation support, Goodwater Gallery for the ladder and to Co-Effect for hosting the work.
Materials list:
Silk, thread, paint, onion, mugwort, turmeric, elderberry, violet flower, beet, avocado skin, dandelion, kimchi juice, rust, rice flour, coca-cola, soy sauce, instant coffee, coins, rosehip, pebbles, seaweed, seashell.
The Wandering Calendar projects are hosted by Kunstverein Toronto.
